Kate Summerscale is an award-winning, bestselling author of three titles, The Suspicions of Mr Whicher, The Queen of Whale Cay and most recently, Mrs Robinson’s Disgrace. She has also judged various literary competitions including the Booker Prize. She lives in north London.
The Suspicions of Mr Whicher or The Murder at Road Hill House, published by Bloomsbury in 2008, was the winner of the Samuel Johnson Prize for Non-Fiction 2008, winner of the Galaxy British Book of the Year Award, a Richard & Judy Book Club pick and adapted into a major ITV drama. The latest hardback edition contains a special eight-page gatefold section of contemporary documents from the Road Hill House investigation, including letters, police reports and Whicher's case notes.
The Queen of Whale Cay, published by Bloomsbury in 2012, depicts the story of Marion Barbara Carstairs, aka Joe, Britain's most celebrated female speed-boat racer. It won a Somerset Maugham award and was shortlisted for the Whitbread biography award.
